You must follow the proper procedures when disputing credit report errors. For example, your dispute letter must identify and explain the error at issue and must be sent directly to a credit report agency. What if I don't recognize a LVNV account on my credit report?
If your credit report shows a LVNV Funding account you don’t recognize, there are two likely explanations. First, LVNV or a credit reporting agency may be confusing you with someone else. This is called a “mixed file” error. These types of credit report errors often are mistaken for identity theft. Second, you may be a victim of identity theft. For information on removing information that is not yours from your credit report, read our pages on fixing mixed credit files and correcting identity theft credit report errors.
How long can LVNV Funding stay on my credit report?
Generally, adverse account information must be removed from your credit report after seven years. There are exceptions for credit cards, which can stay on your account for 7-8 years depending on the circumstances. Read our page on removing old information from your credit report to learn more.
Can LVNV Funding use my credit report?
LVNV Funding can use your credit report for permissible purposes only, like advertising credit or evaluating a credit application. If LVNV uses your credit report for an impermissible purpose, it may be violating the FCRA.
